| Quick Guides - My DataPlace | |
When you're a registered DataPlace user and logged in to the
site, you can personalize content in several ways that make it
easy to select your most frequently used locations and
indicators. You can also save links to pages containing maps,
tables, and charts for easy future access.
|
| How to register on DataPlace | |
If you're not already a registered user of KnowledgePlex or
DataPlace, go to the registration page by clicking on the
"Register" link in the top right corner of any DataPlace page.
Fill out the form and click the "Complete Registration" button
at the bottom to complete the process.
Note: The registration processes for DataPlace and KnowledgePlex
are unified. Once you've registered for one site, you're
automatically registered for the other.
After registering, log in to the site via the "Login" link in
the top right corner of the page. That way you can access the
extra benefits available to registered users.

| Adding places and indicators to your favorites list from My DataPlace | |
After logging in to DataPlace, you'll see a third link in the
top right corner of any page: "My DataPlace." Click on this link
to go to the page where you can personalize your DataPlace
experience by saving places and indicators that you're
particularly interested in.
- Places. To add locations to your favorites list on My
DataPlace, go to the "Add Place" link at the far right of the
"Places" heading. This link brings up the "Choose a place"
pop-up box, from which you can browse to any location. For
example, to add Maryland to the list, select the "state" link
and then Maryland from the state list. Click on the "Add
Maryland to Saved Places" button, and Maryland is added under
"Places" on the My DataPlace page. You can delete a place from
your favorites list by clicking
next to the place name.
Once you've saved a location, it appears in the "My Saved
Places" drop-down under the search box at the top of any
DataPlace page. This allows you to quickly select the location
while using other DataPlace features, such as Maps, Key
Indicators or Data & Charts.
- Indicators. Saving indicators for future use works
just like saving favorite places. Go to "Add Indicator" link to
the far right of the Indicators heading. This link brings up the
"Find Indicators" box, from which you can search for or browse
to a particular indicator. Click "Add" next to the desired
indictor, and it's added under "Indicators" on the My DataPlace
page. You can delete an indicator from your favorites list by
clicking
next to the indicator name.
|
| Adding a new place to your favorites list from the Area Overview | |
Registered users can personalize their DataPlace experience from
other DataPlace pages, such as the Area Overview. For example,
from the home page, type "Arizona" into the search box and click
Search (or hit the Enter key). This produces an Area Overview
for the state of Arizona.
To add Arizona to your list of saved places, click the "Save
This Place" link to the right of the area description. The save
is confirmed with the message "Saved Arizona to My DataPlace."
If you go to the My DataPlace page, Arizona appears on the list
of saved places.
Once you've saved a location, it also appears in the "My Saved
Places" drop-down under the search box at the top of any
DataPlace page.
|
Besides saving locations and indicators for future use, you can
also save entire data displays that you create for future
reference. Whenever you create a map or a table and chart, or
view a Key Indicators snapshot, you can quickly save it to My
DataPlace.
- Map. To save a map, click on the "Save this map" link
above the map legend.
- Table and chart. To save a table and chart, click on the
"Save this page" link under Chart Tools.
- Key indicators. To save a Key Indicators display,
click on the "Save this page to My DataPlace" link in the yellow
Key Indicator Tools box. A message will confirm that the page
was saved to your My DataPlace profile.
