DataPlace maps are powerful tools that can reveal important trends and characteristics of
any place in the United States. Registered users can now host maps created on DataPlace on
their own web sites. Follow the basic steps below to start displaying maps on your site:
|
To create a map you can host on your site, you first need to build a map by clicking on the
"Maps" tab located on the top menu of DataPlace. For detailed help on creating maps and selecting
data, take a moment to read over the help section on maps.
Once you have created a map of your desired location and data, click on the icon at the bottom of
the right column: "Publish this map to your web site."
|
After logging to your DataPlace account (you may need to register if you are a new user), you will
be asked to set up your first Affiliate Site ID. Simply fill out the name of your organization,
followed by the web site address and contact information. After reviewing the terms, click
"I Agree" to start configuring your new map.
|
| Customizing your Affiliate Map | |
After you have created your new site ID, you can start customizing your map. Enter a title for your
map and the desired size, zoom level and color scheme. Each time you change values you can select
"Reload Map" to see those on the map. Select "Save" to store your map.
|
When you select "Save" after customizing your map, you will be shown the code necessary to display the
map on your site. Copy the full HTML code shown in the light blue box and past that into the desired
location on your site. Your edited page will dynamically display the customized map for your users.
You can change your map settings at any time without having to update this HTML code.
|
The Affiliate Map Tools will let you create multiple maps to display on your site. Follow the same steps
outlined above to add additional maps. You can edit, view and delete any of your created maps and affiliate
sites by clicking on "Edit Affiliate Sites" under "Personal Information" on the My DataPlace page.
